Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Affirmcity (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit affirmcity.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We keep things simple: we only collect what we need to run the site, answer your messages and keep Affirmcity free to read.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email us at [email protected].

1. Who is responsible for your information

Affirmcity is an affirmations and encouragement website run from Lagos, Nigeria. We are the “data controller” for the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used. We handle your information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and, for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact form and email. When you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, subject and message. The form sends your message to our inbox; it is not published on the site.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and optional website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly; your email address is never published.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device information. Like most websites, our servers and service providers record technical details such as your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you visit and the date and time of your visit.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies for essential site functions, to remember your cookie choices, to understand how the site is used (analytics) and, where you allow it, to show advertising. See section 5.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive information such as health, religious or financial details about yourself. You do not need an account to read anything on Affirmcity.

3. How we use your information

  • To reply to your messages and questions.
  • To publish and moderate comments, and to filter out spam.
  • To understand which articles are helpful so we can write better content (analytics).
  • To show advertising that keeps Affirmcity free to read.
  • To keep the site secure: detecting spam, blocking malicious traffic and preventing unauthorised access.
  • To comply with our legal obligations.

Our legal bases

Where the NDPA or GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (for analytics and advertising cookies, which you can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests in running, improving and securing the site and in responding to you; and legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, and only as much as they need:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures how visitors use the site. It uses cookies and processes your IP address and device information. Learn more at how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Google AdSense (Google LLC) shows ads on the site. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can manage personalised ads in Google Ads Settings.
  • Akismet (Automattic Inc.) checks comments for spam. The comment, your IP address, user agent and other comment details are sent to Akismet for this check.
  • Gravatar (Automattic Inc.) may display a profile picture next to your comment. An anonymised string created from your email address (a “hash”) is sent to Gravatar to check whether you have a profile.
  • Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) delivers the site quickly and protects it from attacks. It processes your IP address and technical request data.
  • Our web hosting provider stores the website, including contact form emails, comments and security logs, on its servers.
  • Authorities, if we are required to by law or need to protect our rights, our visitors or the public.

5. Cookies

When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies. Essential cookies (for example, the one that remembers your cookie choice and security cookies) are always active because the site cannot work properly without them. Analytics and advertising cookies are only used according to your choices.

For the full list of cookies we use and to change your choices at any time, visit our Cookie Policy. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do.

6. How long we keep information

  • Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and then deleted.
  • Comments and their details are kept for as long as the comment remains on the site. You can ask us to remove your comment at any time.
  • Security logs (such as IP addresses linked to suspicious activity) are kept for a limited period to protect the site, then deleted automatically.
  • Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of Google Analytics.

7. Keeping your information safe

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), security software, firewall protection and restricted access to our systems. No website or internet transmission is ever completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond quickly if anything goes wrong.

8. International transfers

Some of our service providers, including Google, Automattic and Cloudflare, process information outside Nigeria and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards these providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect your information.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your information;
  • ask for your information in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time (for example, by changing your cookie choices on our Cookie Policy page), without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.

To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within the time the law requires, usually within 30 days. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) or, if you are in the EEA or UK, to your local data protection authority.

10. Children

Affirmcity is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Links to other websites

Our articles may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their privacy policies when you visit them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add a new feature or service. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Please check back occasionally to stay informed.

13. Contact us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your information, email us at [email protected] or use our contact page.
