What It Means to Transition From Time to Eternity

Transiting from life to eternity simply means moving away from the time-bound limitations of this world to the timelessness of eternity. The ordinary human life is time-bound, having a beginning and an end. You’re always conscious of the limitedness of time and, as such, are constantly in a rush to achieve something. 

But when you move away from time and start seeing life from an eternal perspective, your focus shifts. You now know that life is beyond what is in front of you, and your focus should be on eternity. When you focus on eternity, your thoughts and actions are not on what you can achieve in this world. 

You know that life on earth is just a phase, and you’ll pass from here to eternity. Therefore, as the Bible says, your focus should be on laying down eternal verities and not accumulating worldly wealth alone. Focusing on eternity keeps you spiritually grounded, and what hinders others won’t hinder you because you know you have transitioned from time to eternity. 

The Difference Between Living in the Now and Living for Eternity

When you focus on time, you are conscious of how much of it you have or don’t have, and do things that only gratify you. You’ll also invest only in things that you can gain in this life, like your job, stocks, friendships, etc. As long as you can reap the benefits in this life, you do not care about life after here. 

The reverse is the case when you have eternity in your heart; you become focused on life after here. So, you’re not investing only in silver and gold, but setting up riches for yourself in heaven too. When you transit from time to eternity, you sow kindness, have a rich fellowship with God, and win souls for Christ, knowing that these are what truly count in the life after. 

God becomes the focal point of your life; you live in and by His Word, focusing more on your spiritual life and not your humanity. Also, you invest in things that people will remember you by, like how you made them feel, how kind you were to them. Having eternity in your heart makes you more benevolent, knowing that even if you’re here for a short while, your legacy will matter to those you impacted and in the life after.
